On this day back in 1958, Buddy Holly, a huge recording star at the time, and Maria Elena Santiago, a receptionist at a music company, got married.

The ceremony took place at Holly's parents home here in Lubbock, Texas. In fact, they tied the knot only having met two weeks earlier in New York.

Sadly, Buddy Holly would die in a plane crash just six months later after performing at a concert at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa.

Buddy recorded a song called "True Love Ways" in October of 1958. The song was released March of 1960, after Buddy had died.

To this day, Maria controls the Buddy Holly name.
