We asked our listeners and fans to vote on what they thought was the best TX/Red Dirt song of the year and vote they did. For a week straight voters sounded off and made it a close race between the Casey Donahew Band and the Randy Rogers Band. The votes were tallied and 99.5 The Bear is proud to announce that the Casey Donahew Band's "Breaks My Heart" was voted song of the year.

"Breaks My Heart" came out on the album Moving On which was released in late 2009 but didn't get big radio play until the early part of 2011. It's speaks loudly for a band who can release an album almost two years ago and still have a song off that album be named best song of the year. Donahew and the boys now have out Double Wide Dream, released a couple months back. Make sure you pick up both albums from CBD and all of those who were finalists for this year's song of the year.

Here is how the Top 5 shaped out.

    My Texas

Josh Abbott Band feat. Pat Green

Though it's not on his newest album, "My Texas" was a fantastic release from JAB this year. We would agree that this is a Top 5 song for the year!

    Velvet

    Stoney LaRue

Fans of Stoney LaRue were draped in "Velvet" this year thanks to his first studio album released in over five years. The album was well worth the wait thanks to the title track in "Velvet." We're going to wear our bandanas in honor of Stoney today!

    Long Hot Summer Days

    Turnkpike Troubadours

It's only fitting that one of the hottest bands on the scene right now would have a song in the Top 5 for the year. The Turnpike Troubadours land at #3 with "Long Hot Summer Days." It was the summer anthem for many listeners from Texas and Oklahoma and could be it again when June rolls around in 2012.

    Interstate

    Randy Rogers Band

The past few years have been a bit whirlwind for the Randy Rogers Band thanks to all the national attention the band has been getting and great music they've been making. 'Burning The Day' came out in late 2010 and had three singles released, none bigger than "Interstate." Die hard RRB fans voted fast on this one and made it leap frog all the way up to #2. Expect to see the RRB back on the list in 2012 as they are hard at work writing new material.

    Breaks My Heart

    Casey Donahew Band

Sure, as we mentioned, the album came out a while ago but "Breaks My Heart" was a huge track in the early part of 2011. The Casey Donahew Band has some of the most loyal and dedicated fans we've ever seen as CDB fanatics voted early and often to keep "Breaks My Heart" at the top the entire week of voting. Congrats to everyone who was named a finalist and big congrats to the Casey Donahew Band.
