Most of us have heard the term "blue norther". But what about a "brown norther"? That's what happened this evening when a cold front came blowing in on the south plains at around 6pm.

The skies turned brown with dust then almost a dark red as the winds became more intense. Wind speeds were reported at close to 70mph at times.

You can blame the drought on the dust, I haven't seen a dust storm like this since the early 1980's. The dust was so bad that the street lights came on at 4pm in the afternoon. The wind was so strong that one of the big windows at the terminal at the airport was blown out.

But what is nice is that we will have some cooler temperatures on the south plains.
