Driving East and West Can Be Life-Threatening

I’m not claiming that if you drive east and west you will spontaneously combust, but driving east and west at certain times of the day is more hazardous than others.

The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Duh, right?

Well, that means that dawn and dusk are the times of day that you should be especially careful when driving east and west.  With the sun glaring right in your eyes, it lowers your ability to be able to see oncoming traffic.

It also doesn’t help that at the same times the sun is at its most dangerous for driving, people are usually rushing to either get somewhere in the morning or rushing to get away from somewhere in the evening.

It can happen to anyone, too. No matter how safe of a driver you may think you are, it won’t stop someone else from pulling out in front of you when they can’t see you.

One of Lubbock’s own can testify to this: K. Boggs, 22, was hit in a car accident because of something as simple as a sun glare. “It was one morning when I was on my way to class. I didn’t see the pickup coming towards me because it was white and it blended into the sun light” she said. “It ripped the front bumper off of my car.”

A big down side to this: you are at fault because insurance companies won’t let you blame the sun for an accident. Failing to take the proper precautions can end up costing you BIG TIME.

Cars are made with sun visors for a reason, so don’t be scared to use it! Also, wearing a good pair of shades is not just a fashion statement. Investing in a really good pair can potentially save you more money than you think.
