The best hangover cure is just don't get drunk. But experts say the wisest thing to do is don't drink on an empty stomach. Food helps absorb alcohol and delay toxic effects on the body. And drinking plenty of water before, during and after also helps because alcohol can dehydrate the body. This site mentions some well-known remedies but with alternatives to try instead, such as: (1) Hair of the dog, which may temporarily take the edge off your symptoms but lead to an even worse hangover the following day. (2)Greasy breakfast. Many people swear by it but toast and cereal are easier to digest than greasy foods (3) Alka-Seltzer helps soothe a queasy stomach but also contains aspirin which may irritate your stomach after a night of heavy drinking. (4) Hangover pills that have been studied, have proven ineffective in curing hangovers. (5) Coffee, good for your typical morning fix, but the extra caffeine narrows your blood vessels making your hangover worse.

Instead of all these suggestions, they say drink water or sports drinks for the dehydration and exercise to speed up your metabolism, thus making you feel better. You can always hit the sauna and sweat it out. Or how about "sleep"? And I know for a fact that works! Happy 2012!
