For the 20th year Lubbock Meals on Wheels is promoting pie sales at United Supermarkets to fund their organization. This year they're seeking $50,000 and it should be "Easy as Pie." That's the name of the promotion that's been so successful through the years. It starts Friday, November 11, with a pie-eating contest at noon, featuring 99.5 the Bear's own Rick Gilbert as judge. Local celebs eat as much pie as they can while everyone cheers them on. That's just a kickoff to the event which actually runs all next week, November 12-19.

You just purchase a Sara Lee pie coupon for $5 and get a free pie with the coupon. The money goes to fund Meals on Wheels which serves over 600 daily meals throughout Lubbock, helping elderly and disabled homebound people each weekday. This organization depends completely on the community for financial support, getting NO governmental funding. If you need more info or want to volunteer with Meals of Wheels, go to their website or contact them at 806-792-7971. In the meantime, head over to any United in Lubbock, beginning Saturday and get one of the fabulous pies for your own table and help "Feed a Friend."
