It was on this day that one of the legends of country music became a member of the Grand Ole Opry. So I thought we would spotlight Ronnie Milsap on today's "first hit Monday".

Ronnie Milsap has been blind since birth, but this entertainer has mastered piano, guitar and several string instruments.

Milsap was a session musician in Memphis and you can hear him playing the piano on Elvis Presley's song "Kentucky Rain". Milsap also sang harmony on another hit song for Elvis called "Don't Cry Daddy".

In 1972 he moved to Nasville and hooked up with Charley Pride's manager and a year later he had a contract on RCA Records.

By 1974 he had three Number One songs in a row.

At the end of the 80's, Milsap had 35 Number One songs, plus he had gathered several CMA and Grammy awards.

But Back in 1974, this is the one song that started it all for Ronnie Milsap
