Lee Ann Womack Returns To South Plains

Opening for George Strait and Reba McEntire tour in March  is native Texan Lee Ann Womack.  The lady who has sold 6 million albums has come a long way since her childhood days when  her dad, a Jacksonville, Texas country music disc jockey and principal (imagine that!),  took her to the radio station where she listened to George Jones and Tammy Wynette.   She liked what she heard and when deciding on a college, headed to South Plains College in Levelland where she enrolled in one of the country's first degree programs in Country Music and was a member of "Country Caravan", performing throughout the area.

She eventually headed to Belmont U. in Nashville to continue studying music.  But Lee Ann  says she didn't learn to sing from voice lessons, but rather  it was early introduction to Jones and Wynette that gave her the instruction she needed to become a dual Grammy winner and star.    Just a crazy thought here but wonder who would have influenced her if her dad had worked at a rock station?  She'll be in Lubbock March 26th.
