In 2006 while trying to disarm an explosive device, Marine Corporal Megan Leavey and her combat dog, Sgt. Rex, were wounded.  Leavey, a Purple Heart recipient who is now out of the service, has been trying since 2007 to adopt Rex, who is ten years old now.

Because of a partial facial paralysis Rex cannot continue his military service and bureaucracy stood in the way of getting these two united. Now, that adoption has come through thanks to the efforts of U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer from New York. Rex will join Leavey in Rockland County, just north of New York City. It's nice to hear good news for change, huh?
