His sound is a mixture of country, rock and blues. Much of his success came in the 80's. During that time Hank Jr. was named "Entertainer of the Year" by the Country Music Association in 1987 and 1988. He won the same award from the Academy of Country Music in 1987, '88 and '89.
Of course, everyone knows him as the performer of the theme song for "Monday Night Football". In fact that opening earned him four Emmys in 1991, '92, '93 and '92.
On this day back in 1986, Hank Jr's album "High Notes" was certified gold and it featured the hit song "If Heaven Ain't A Lot Like Dixie".
