Don Cornelius, the man who created Soul Train, was found dead this morning in his L.A. home.  It appeared that Cornelius took his own life.  Sources say he died of a self inflicted gunshot wound.  Don Cornelius was 75 years old.

I can remember watching almost every Saturday as Don introduced new talent to a scene that didn't reach television until 1971 when Cornelius introduced his Soul Train, what some folks described as a "black American Bandstand."  James Brown, Aretha Franklin, and Michael Jackson were all special guests on his show.

Soul Train ceased airing in 2006 and spun off into other shows, The Soul Train Music Awards, and The Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards. The most famous theme song "TSOP" by MFSB became a chart topper in 1974.
