The space shuttle program has come to an end. The space shuttle Discovery retire and be on display for all to see at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum.

The shuttle rode piggy back on a 747 carrier aircraft after taking off from Cape Canaveral on it's way to Dulles International Airport in Washington D.C..

For those in the nation's capital it must have been an impressive site seeing the shuttle on the back of the 747 flying around the Washington Monument and the White House in a salute to the capital.

Discovery flew almost 149 million miles. It flew 39 missions, more than any of the other shuttles.
