This Sunday , January 8th, is Elvis Presley's birthday. Had he had live the "king of rock and roll' as he was known would be 77 year old. When Elvis burst onto the scene, he not only took the music industry by storm, he changed an entire generation.

In the 50's there were two big show on television, the "Milton Berle Show" and "The Ed Sullivan Show". Elvis appeared on both and teenagers and the time went crazy.

On the Berle show, they showed Elvis full screen, moving his hips, dancing, the whole bit. On the Ed Sullivan Show, Mr. Sullivan decided they would show Elvis from the waist up.

Presley's career spanned from the 50's through the 70's. He died in 1977.

I was fortunate to see him in concert New Year's Eve 1976 in the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac Michigan. I had never experienced a concert liked that. There were 60,000 people there.

The stage was in the round and Elvis appeared, coming up through the middle of the stage. It was a magic night.

Everyone has his or her favorite Elvis song or movie. One of my favorites is Elvis in "Viva Las Vegas".

Thank you, thank you very much.
